Awesome spot for bánh canh in San Jose. I personally don't like when people call bánh canh "Vietnamese udon." Udon is made from wheat flour. Bánh canh noodles are made from tapioca and rice flour. Moreover, they're of completely different textures and taste widely different. To call it "udon" is a disgrace to Vietnamese cuisine. I usually get the #5 (banh canh cua dac biet - $15.75) with crab, shrimp, and pork knuckle. The broth is here is thiccc and pork-y. Ain't nothing like a pork knuckle in a savory soup broth. Also, a side of chao quay/you tiao/Chinese donut is typically eaten with banh canh - it costs $3 here. Amazing family-owned spot in San Jose serving the best banh canh!

i had a super craving for banh canh (my fav viet food) and going here with my besties was such a good experience tehee. Got number 5 and 10 and crepe spring rolls and donuts. Han said number 5 feels like the ocean and number 10 feels like the lake and i agree we shared the food and said good bye to our friend

One of our comfortable food spot, especially when no one is open in the afternoon. No 6 is just a bigger portion of no 5. The soup is thick but warm. Full of flavor. The only downside is probably yes you can see there are crab meats but no, you probably won’t be able to taste them anyway but the soup is strong flavored. Make sure you add Chinese donut to it too. We also love the hot crepe roll during the weekend. Perfect between the crunchiness, favor, and freshness. Cash only. Tips are appreciated.

I passed this restaurant all the time but never gave it any through. Being a rainy day, my wife wanted to try it. I had #5 on the menu, WOW !! Just like how mom uses to make it. It's an authentic original flavor from Vietnam. Not the fusion BS food that's pop-up restaurant is doing now a days. When I went to pay the bill, i looked in the kitchen and saw all the cooks were old in their 60s +, I understood why the flavors brought back memories of the pass. Yes, it's $$, but it's about the same as everywhere now.

Pretty interesting bowl of noodles. I thought the noodles is going to be spicy, but it's not. Interesting flavor and it's worth trying. They are cash only or venmo. Ended up paying $25 for this.

THE best spot for rare vietnamese udon aka banh canh. And one of the few noodle soup spots where each slurp conjures up magical unicorns and stars in my mouth. Faves: #5 specialty udon soup with crab, shrimp, and pork (I ask for just crab and shrimp) #10: specialty nha trang udon soup with fish cake Instagram: TianTianEats

Very good authentic food I happened to be there on Saturday, and I ordered the Bánh canh cua bowl, the noodle is right not too chewy not too soft, the crab meat is tasty and full of flavor, must be freshly cooked from real crab, not out of the can. I really recommend it and will be back when I happen to be in the area.

THIS SPOT IS SOOO GOOD AND WORTH THE HYPE 1000%! Ordered the Banh Xeo Spring Rolls, #1 Banh Canh Nam Pho (spicy udon soup with shrimp cake and pork), #5 Banh Canh Cua Dac Biet (specialty udon soup with crab, shrimp, and pork) and a side order of the Gio Chao Quay (chinese donut). Total was about $52 before tip which was a fantastic amount of food for two people. Banh Xeo Spring Rolls were really good! The rice paper they use is insanely chewy in the best way and the flavor of the banh xeo is heavier on the coconut and tumeric which I appreciated. Fish sauce was good too. I'd get it again but keep in mind it's $12.95 for just two spring rolls. Eat them right when it gets to your table to enjoy it as crispy as possible! The noodles here are insanely chewy, not overcooked and soaks up the slightly thick broth so perfectly. The bowls also come out PIPING hot so you KNOW it was cooked fresh. The #1 Banh Canh Nam Pho (spicy udon soup with shrimp cake and pork) is ACTUALLY SPICY! This will most definitely have your nose running but in the best way possible. The shrimp cakes were super tender balls of shrimp that were fried golden on the outside but still had a nice plump texture on the inside. The #1 also comes with two pieces of large shrimp that were bouncy and so delicious! I'm not a fan of seafood so this bowl was perfect, I would ask for extra lemon next time though to try to mellow out the spiciness. The difference between the #5 Banh Canh Cua Dac Biet (specialty udon soup with crab, shrimp, and pork and the #6 Banh Canh 3 Mien is that the #6 is a larger portion of the #5. This most definitely has that crabby taste, but it isn't muddled whatsoever and was incorporated into the broth perfectly. This also has fish cakes inside! Definitely order a side of the Gio Chao Quay (chinese donuts), so you can let them get soggy in your soup to soak up all that delicious broth. Super clean inside, service was good. Super authentic food, already looking forward to my next visit!
